Kendriya Vidyalaya KV Teachers to spend 7:30 hours in School

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan decided to keep the teachers inside the school campus for 7:30 hours per day. In the 91st meeting of Board of Governors held on 19.01.2012, the KVS has instructed all KV teachers to attend the school for 7:30 hours per day.

These new norms will take effect from April 01, 2012. Teachers argue that if the students are not there whom they will teach as there is no change in teaching time. The school timings for students will be remaining same as 6 hours and 10 minutes.

The sangathan argues that RTE Act 2009 envisages 45 hours of work per week i.e. 7 Hours and 30 minutes par day. This includes planning/ preparation/ checking and other follow up work. School functions for 6 hours and 10 minutes therefore teachers may be retained after school hours for additional 1 hour and 20 minutes which can be used for planning/ preparation/ checking/ follow-up word and for ensuring safe arrival and exit of students before and after the school hours.

KVs teachers or any school teachers  in India gets 70 days annual leave as vacation, 52 week ends and few around 20 national holidays. This is not bad at all. Keeping he view in RTE framework its essential for teacher to do the prep work. The problem is this need to be replicated in any other institution including Higher education institutions should be implemented. Then only teaching could be considered a profession not a common mans job the popular belief we have. Teacher should be compensated the best in the job market. This is the trend in all the developed nation.

Not a single KV teacher is Happy
RTE 2009 has other suggestions such as teacher student ratio and many others
KV has to follow all RTE rules, not only one

  • tanya

RTE act 2009  has rule teacher student ratio as 1:35 .In KV this ratio is 1:50.
Why Govt is not punishing KVS for this inappropriate ratio?

  • chetna sharma

Its injustice to ask the teachers to stay back after school hours as its just wastage of time and its causing inconvenience to teachers in commutation

Sir you know what happened to Mr. Murali Manohar Joshi when he was minister of HRD in central govt. on the issue of implementing of voting by the students about the teacher’s ability. The same will be repeated with Mr. Kapil Sibbal for implementing of 7 hours 30 minutes in kvs because history repeat itself. Not only this the present govt. will out of the power.

Stay back after school off is only for regular teachers or for contractual teachers too?

  • sudarshan

KVS has lost its reputation long back, though teacher are well qualified but sangathan is unable to motivate them or feel their problems. teachers should be left only for teaching work. administration is draconian and negative.
