The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. ECHO works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channelled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.
ECHO South Asia Regional Support Office (RSO) announces the vacant position of ‘Programme Assistant’ for its India programme, based in New Delhi. ECHO’s South Asia RSO in Delhi provides support to nine countries in South Asia – India, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iran and Maldives.
Education-A relevant first level university degree or equivalent professional experience.
Knowledge and Experience-Minimum 5 years of relevant experience at national or international level in supporting programme/project operations, including at least 2 years of experience with an NGO, donor or national/international organisation; Good knowledge of the EU Humanitarian Aid system;,Good knowledge of International NGOs, UN Aid agencies and Red Cross Movement;Good understanding of Humanitarian Aid principles, policies and standards ;Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc).
Languages-An excellent knowledge of English (verbal & writing).,An excellent knowledge of Hindi.
The incumbent serves as Programme Assistant in ECHO RSO Delhi with the responsibility to carry out activities to contribute to the delivery of an effective humanitarian response. The job holder contributes to assessments, monitoring and evaluations of projects, as well as to the analysis of the humanitarian context in the area of coverage.

A contract of employment will be concluded for an initial period of one year, subject to a successful completion of 6 month probation period. Employment is expected to start in January 2014. The candidate will be placed in Group 2 on the ECHO salary grid. The salary for this position under group 2 at step 1 is INR 60,862 and step 15 is INR 92,947.
