This was announced by HRD minister Kapil Sibal during a meeting of state education ministers here on Friday. Though states supported the move, it remains to be seen if they emulate it for state entrance tests.

However, the state ministers were not supportive of Centre’s decision to increase the age of retirement of college teachers from 62 to 65. While approving the idea, a few states even showed reluctance about sharing cost of life and health insurance for teachers. As for the common entrance test, Sibal said, “There are two common subjects — physics and chemistry — for both engineering and medical entrance. Mathematics and biology are separate. Those aspiring for engineering can attempt mathematics and those for medical can go for biology.”

Explaining how the common entrance will work, an HRD official said, “There will be four papers of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. A student appearing for both engineering and medical will have to take all four papers. We will ensure that mathematics and biology papers are not held at the same time. Based on their score it will be decided if a student qualifies for engineering or medical. Those who want to appear just for engineering or medical will have to take three papers each.”

The decision is part of HRD’s design to have a common entrance even for central university admissions. There is also a plan of giving weightage to class XII marks in entrance tests for professional and other courses.

There are 14 BTech programmes on offer this year with a total intake of 910 seats, where 85% seats will be reserved for Delhi category students and 15% for outside Delhi category. The admission to both Delhi and outside Delhi categories will be on the basis of rank obtained in the AIEEE-2010 examination. The last date to submit the completed application forms for BTech and MTech programmes is June 21, 2010 (Monday) by 4pm and for PhD programmes the deadline is June 25, 2010 (Friday) by 4pm.

In Delhi, Satyender Yadav from S D Saraswati Bal Mandir, Punajbi Bagh was in sixth position while Shivam Handa of Manavsthali, Rajindra Nagar was placed at ninth position. A few days back, Handa was placed 37th and Yadav 50th in the list of those of who cleared IIT-JEE.

‘‘I would join IIT-Delhi and pursue computer science,’’ said a jubilant Yadav. Hailing from Haryana, Yadav after his class X joined Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Tilak Nagar where he was asked to leave due to shortage in attendance. He later went on to score 90.4% in his class XII boards.

Handa too plans to pursue computer science from IIT-Delhi. Speaking about his preparation for AIEEE, he said: ‘‘I started my preparation immediately after my class X boards. My coaching institute helped me immensely on the right kind of preparation, while my school was also cooperative. I needed 75% attendance in school so I utilized 25% leaves and concentrated on coaching.’’ Vipul Singh was 5th in the list of IIT-Jee toppers. ‘‘The guidance of teachers helped me greatly,’’ said Singh.

In all 11,18,148 students registered for exams and 10,58,152 appeared in it. AIEEE is the largest single-day competitive exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Exams. The online registration for counselling to be conducted by the Central Counselling Board will be staring from June 8.

Based on the ranks achieved in this exam, admission is done in various National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information technology, Delhi Technological University etc.

The result of ninth All India  Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination, 2010, conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, has been declared for admission in various National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Delhi Technological University, Delhi, Deemed Universities and for few States like Uttaranchal and Haryana.  The candidates are advised to see their rank wise result at www.cbse.nic.in or www.aieee.nic.in from 11:00 a.m. onwards on 30.05.2010.  This year 10,58,152 candidates appeared against 11,18,148 candidates registered for AIEEE-2010 at 1623 centers in 86 cities all over India and abroad.

The on-line registration for counseling to be conducted by Central Counseling Board will be starting from 8th June, 2010.

c)    Make the payment through Credit Card and note down the payment receipt number, after successful payment of fee.

5. Paste your two recent photographs (as given in point 6 below), sign in the specified box and send this confirmation page along with Demand Draft (In case of Examination Fee deposited through Demand Draft) by Registered/Speed Post (NOT BY COURIER) to ” The Assistant Secretary (AIEEE Unit), Central Board of Secondary Education, PS 1-2, Institutional Area, IP Extension,Patparganj, Delhi 110 092″ for further processing so as to reach latest by 05.01.2010 . Application received beyond this date will not be accepted.

6. Photograph : Firmly affix two recent high contrast passport size preferably black & white photograph (taken on or after 1.9.2009) with gum/fevicol (not to be pinned or stapled) in the space provided for it in the Application Form one duly attested by the head of the institution where the candidate is studying/passed class XII or the Gazatted officer. The photograph must indicate clearly the name of the candidate along with the date of taking the photograph. It should be without cap or goggles. Spectacles are allowed. Polaroid photos are not acceptable. The photograph of the candidate should be attested by the Principal/Head of the Institution or Gazetted Officer in such a way that part of the signature is on the photograph and remaining part of the signature is on the application form. Attestation should be done on the bottom part of the photograph so that the photograph is not defaced. Candidates not complying with these instructions or with unclear photograph are liable to be rejected. Candidates may keep 6-8 identical photographs in reserve for use at the time of entrance examination/Counselling/Admission.

7.  Candidates submitting applications online are required

a.    to attach Demand Draft of required fee (In favour of “Secretary Central Board of Secondary Education,Delhi”, payable at Delhi).
b.    to mention his/her Registration No., Name, and Address on the back of the Demand Draft .
c.    to retain a photocopy of confirmation page for future reference.
d.    to retain a photocopy of the Demand Draft sent.
e.    to retain a photocopy of the transaction receipt if fee paid by Credit Card.
f.    to retain the original receipt issued by the post office for having dispatch the Application Form.
g.    the processing of applications will begin only after receiving confirmation page and fee (by Credit Card or by Demand Draft).

8. Date of Birth : Only  those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1985 are eligible. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Physically Handica pped (PH) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PH candidates who were born on or after October 01, 1980 are eligible.  Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate only will be taken as authentic.

9.  Procedure for Refund of fee if paid through Credit Card
If candidate has made the payment of fee through credit card  & due to some unavoidable circumtances if candidate is unable to print the confirmation page and payment is again made by the candidate then following procedure may be followed to refund

a.    Writedown an application by giving the details of your registration number, all transactions details date wise, address etc to  “The Assistant Secretary (AIEEE Unit), Central Board of Secondary Education, PS 1-2, Institutional Area, IP Extension, Patparganj, Delhi 110 092″ for refund
b.    Payment would be refunded to the candidate by CBSE after the last date of submission of application form.

This examination will be held in two parts viz B.E./B.Tech. from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and for B.Arch./B. Planning from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to overwhelming response of online registration facility, this year submission of online application form for AIEEE 2010 will be starting from 17th November 2009. The last date for online submission for form will be 31st December 2009.

The candidates desirous to apply through online facility can visit CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in or www.aieee.nic.in. The sale of Information Bulletin through indentified branches of syndicate banks and institutions will be starting from 1st December to 31st December 2009.
