Maharashtra SSC Result Dipped by 7%
Maharashtra did not just trip in this year’s SSC results. It moved down a grade from the distinction of 78.7% it held in 2010 to 71.04% this year.
The 7.66% decline is probably the worst in the last decade, and follows the 6% drop in last month’s HSC exam results . Mumbai, too, saw a dip in the percentage of students who cleared the board exam from 81.16% to 80.03%, even though it stood second only to Pune.
While there has been a climb in the number of 90%-plus scorers in the city, the rise is small when compared to national boards like ICSE and CBSE. The fallout will be reflected in the college cut-offs which are bound to rise.
Experts attribute the poor performance to stricter vigilance and low scores in math and science. This year with the Best-5 policy and extra marks for sports achievements, several students have managed to bag a perfect 100%. Amravati division, last year’s topper in the state, was the worst performer in 2011.
