Delhi University is chalking out details of holding a common aptitude test for English (CATE) for its English honours course.  It has asked the English department how and when the Common entrance can be conducted.  Seats will be allocated in different colleges after the entrance examination on the basis of merit-cum-preference.

Until last year, 16 DU colleges admitted students in English honours through individual tests.  The test was scrapped last year as many colleges ended up organising an entrance exams on the same day.  This caused a lot of trouble to students as they had to skip the example at one college to be able to appear for another. hence, they missed out on many opportunities for admission.

The reason a common entrance tests is being introduced is, however, different.  English fertility at many colleges felt it was essential to gauge if a student had the attitude for studying English literature. menace students, who score well in English in class 12 seek admission in English honours.  CBSE English examination is more objective and based on grammar.  However, the English honours course is your literature.  The students who take up English honours thinking that it is a language course and unable to cope later.

Students will have to apply for is CATE through a separate form and not the centralised OMR form.
